Un-Frugal Confessions

Un-frugal Confessions
Un-frugal Confessions

It’s confession time, friends.  I’ve developed a habit over the last six weeks that’s not so frugal.  Over the course of the last six weeks, this habit has cost our family roughly $288.57.  I was so ashamed of this “splurge” that I didn’t even share it with my debt payoff accountability partner.  I shared on Grayson’s site a while back the dangers of the “I Deserve” mindset.

Since our commitment to Gazelle Intensity however, I’ve developed a bit of an “I Don’t Deserve” mindset.  Debt payoff can be a difficult taskmaster.  It’s difficult to know where to draw the line between gazelle intense debt payoff and living life in a way that maximizes value-based priorities. Happy Friday, friends!!  My dear friend Michelle, whom I secretly call my cooking and gardening extraordinaire friend, agreed to write a post for us on the basics of gardening for beginners.  This gal amazes me, simply because the things that she does, she does very well.  She’s a superhero in all things pertaining to house and home.  She’s an amazing cook, her house is fabulously decorated, and she’s a pro and growing and preserving her own food, on top of being super sweet.  So, my friends, gather up all of the gardening wisdom you can from this wise woman!

Over at RockinTheMomRole.com my motto is ‘Living, Life and Loving Both’. I try to educate, inspire, and enlighten on all things domestic. So, when my dear friends at Frugal Farmer asked me to share some of my home gardening tips, of course I said yes!

Motivation: Words of Wisdom From Paul Milligan

Hey, friends!!  This is a post I wrote about two years ago that has some information that was super motivating and helpful to Rick and I as we began our “getting out of debt” journey.  Since this post continues to inspire our growing readership, I thought I’d run this again.  Hope you enjoy it!

Happy Monday, all!  I’m feeling led today to share with you some tidbits from the financial teaching that motivated us to turn our financial life around.   As I’ve mentioned before, we’d been terrible at managing our finances for most of our marriage.  We knew it, but just couldn’t seem to find the willpower to do anything about it.  Read more

Our Best Homemade Pizza Recipe

SSCN5924 Like most normal people, 🙂 we LOVE our pizza here at the Frugal Farmer household.  Let’s just face it: pizza ROCKS!  But it can also be expensive.  At our favorite local pizza joint, it’s not uncommon to spend $18-$20 per pizza, and in our big family, two pizzas is the minimum we’ll eat at a sitting.

Being frugal pizza lovers though, we save the spendy pizza outings for special occasions.  How then, do we supplement our crazy wild pizza cravings in the meantime?  Read more

Movin’ Out

4751090314_e73651cd7e_zRather, I should say “We’re” movin out.  Or, to put it more aptly, we’ve already moved out.  Out, away from the rat race, from the temptation to keep up with the Joneses.  This Billy Joel classic is one of our family favorites.  We played it constantly as we were preparing to ditch our suburbia home for life in hick country, and the song still brings the temptation to flip the bird to rampant consumerism to this day. 6 Mistakes Broke People Make

15083417861_fa0698290d_zAs a follow up to the wildly popular (and somewhat controversial) post I ran last week, entitled 6 Lies Broke People Believe, I’ve written a new post outlining some of the mistakes broke people make.  As we’ve talked about before here, it is often The Broke Mindset that keeps people struggling financially.  Once a person learns to recognize themselves in these oft-made mistakes, they can begin to take the first steps to retraining their minds in a way that promotes positive financial decisions. The Best Things in Life Are Free – Or Dirt Cheap

A3203281597_ce4dbc8d88_zs we continue on with the year of gazelle intensity, we continue on to work to find stuff to do that fits within our budget.  The best things in life are free, as they say.  Or at least “dirt cheap”.  We had a wonderful Saturday this past weekend.  It’s near the end of January here in Minnesota, but Saturday brought us a 45 degree, sun-filled day.  If  you don’t live here/aren’t from here, you have NO idea what a treat this is.  January usually brings subzero temps and the worst of winter in general.   But Saturday was like waking up to heaven on earth. Why You Can’t Save Money on Groceries

7259669024_61fc5a98f6_zHey friends!  This post is a part of a terrific new series that Kayla from Shoeaholic No More is putting together in order to help people save money on groceries.  The group involved in this series has a heart to help readers slash their grocery bills.  There are many components to teaching people to lower their bills.  Income is a factor, as is accessibility to stores, along with the problem of varying prices on products from area to area.  Together, we’re working to teach people what they can do, given their individual situations, to cut their grocery bills while still eating healthy.  Read more

What Do You Want to Know About Feeding Your Family for Less?

ff-pigThat’s the question we need you to answer.  Or, more aptly put, what hurdles do you encounter when you try and reduce your grocery/eating out budget?

The Frugal Farmer team is working on putting a book together that will help you cut your grocery bill tremendously.  We want this to be the best book it can be, by writing it to cover the topics about feeding your family that concern you most.

Submit your ideas, questions and struggles that cause you to spend more on groceries than you’d like, leaving them in the comments.  In the coming weeks, we’ll work to address those questions and get you the information you need on how to feed your family for less.

And spread the word!  We know that grocery spending is a huge budget buster in many families.  The more feedback we can get regarding readers’ grocery bill struggles, the better the book we can create to help people spend less and save more.

Thanks for leaving your questions!
