Cowboy Salsa

Cowboy SalsaAs we work to eat primarily whole foods at our house (sprinkled in with the occasionally delightful dessert), I keep working to find new and delicious recipes that will keep the family “epicurically entertained”. Enter, Cowboy Salsa, or as some like to call it, Cowboy Caviar. Of course, the name means it fits well here on the farm. Truth be told, I stole the recipe from my auntie Bev, and added a few things to make it my own. It’s a super easy recipe that goes well with any kind of a Mexican dinner or as a simple addition to tortilla chips. Read more

Without a Reason There’s Always an Excuse

12154212134_3f6cde858f_zThis post was born out of Ruth’s post on Metacognition in Personal Finance that she wrote last week. In it, Ruth shares:

“I know that for all of those years when I maintained and deepened our levels of debt, I wasn’t using metacognition at all. I definitely did as Amy did. When times were extra good financially, I felt a giddy compulsion to spend that extra. I also spent more when things were extra busy. And I spent more when I felt extra anxious about something. I spent more in accordance with bursts of extra love too – especially when it came to one of our children – and at times of celebration.”

Many times where people lose it on their score is in the area of physical fitness. They’ve done all of the technical things they need to do to be prepared, such as storing up food and water, preparing an alternate heating source, etc., but they’re not physically prepared for the hard work of survival during tough times. How to Stay Disciplined During Debt Payoff

The Road to Debt FreeThe other day I shared on Fruclassity about how debt payoff isn’t all about discipline. I shared some stories about my crazy perfectionist psyche and how it really messes with me as I work on controlling spending and budgeting properly. I shared that debt payoff doesn’t just involve discipline – that you have to learn to work with the messages in your head and with the mindsets you’ve adapted so that you can re-train yourself to think about money in a healthy way.

These same rules apply to losing weight as well, and last night I had an experience that reminded me that although discipline isn’t everything, it is vitally important that we do work to stay disciplined during debt payoff, weight loss goals or reach any other goal we might have set. Read more

Did you know that in 22 cities in the United States, women actually earn more money than men on average? Well, I personally think this is promising. These days, women are becoming more and more independent and treated as equals of men.

According to The Huffington Post, despite women making less income than men generally across the USA, trends are starting to change. According to NerdWallet, a personal finance website, in the USA, a typical woman earns only about 79 cents for every $1 dollar a man makes; however, in Inglewood, California, a majority of women earn a whopping $1.20 dollars for every $1 dollar that a man earns on a regular basis.
